About The Role

We at PEI Group are looking for a Reporter to join our welcoming, diverse, and growing team based here in New York. Successful candidate will be reporting on the Private Equity industry for Buyouts and report to Chris Witkowsky.

Your main responsibilities will include filing breaking news, long-term features, opinion columns and other forms of journalism like podcasts focused on private equity fundraising, capital allocation, governance, LP relations and other issues vital to the successful running of a firm. The role will include building a network of private equity sources, including PE firms, institutional investors, consultants and lawyers.

Each reporter on the team is responsible for writing three to five news/analysis stories per week for the Buyouts website, longer-form features for online and the print magazine, as well as periodic opinion columns. We also attend industry events and occasionally moderate panels and key-note interviews.

Develop and maintain a network of relevant market sources.
Develop an understanding of the issues our audience faces.
Gather and pitch story leads of potential value to our audience.
Think laterally about the most appropriate format (e.g. written vs podcast vs roundtable)
Include proprietary information in all stories.
Meet with sources and attend conferences.
Produce clean, well-structured copy ready for edit, with all necessary “page furniture”.
Ensure all content is accurate and fact-checked, and journalistic process has been correctly followed.
Participate in the editorial production process
Communicate regularly and openly with team and meet deadlines.
Understand and adhere to journalistic ethics and consult immediately with editors on any potential conflicts or errors.
Contribute to newsletters, and over time, write newsletters.
Participate in podcasts and conferences.
Participate as an active team member in meetings and projects.

Qualification & Experience

Three to five years experience in print journalism
Business writing experience a plus (Private equity familiarity also a plus)
Bachelor's degree or higher
Portfolio of past work
Track record of breaking news
