The marketing team acts as strategic partners to the business, delivering customer-centric, creative, and high-performance programmes that drive engagement, strengthen brand preference, and underpin commercial success.
 
The Marketing Manager - Membership Retention based in our New York City or Charlotte offices, will play a key role in protecting and growing recurring revenue across PEI's business information and network-led membership offering.

Working within the strategic direction set by the Senior Marketing Manager, this role is responsible for the planning and execution of audience-led lifecycle programmes that drive engagement, product adoption, renewal and account expansion across priority membership audiences.

Role Overview

You will develop and deliver retention and engagement marketing plans for PEI’s Private Equity membership, ensuring the value of membership is understood, used and renewed across the customer base.

You will translate strategy into integrated lifecycle programmes across onboarding, adoption, engagement, renewal and expansion, working closely with Customer Success, Sales, Editorial, Data and Digital Marketing teams.

This role combines campaign leadership, customer insight, and commercial delivery, with accountability for retention and engagement performance across defined brands and audience segments.
 

Delivery of Membership Retention Marketing Strategy

  • Deliver retention and customer engagement marketing plans for Memberships aligned to overall business and marketing strategy
  • Translate business objectives into clear, commercially focused lifecycle programmes
  • Deliver retention and expansion initiatives aligned to renewal, retention and revenue KPIs
  • Ensure the membership value proposition is effectively communicated and reinforced across the full customer lifecycle and all touchpoints

    Audience-Led Retention & Expansion Marketing

  • Plan and deliver retention marketing programmes focused on:
    • Renewal and gross revenue retention
    • Product adoption, usage and active user growth
    • Upsell, cross-sell and seat expansion
    • At-risk account intervention and win-back
  • Develop and execute account-based engagement initiatives across priority and strategic accounts
  • Identify opportunities to improve renewal rates, reduce churn and increase net revenue retention

    Integrated Lifecycle Campaign Planning & Execution

  • Own delivery of the lifecycle campaign programme across target audiences and organisations
  • Design and deliver integrated lifecycle programmes across:
    • Onboarding and time-to-value
    • Engagement and nurture
    • Renewal and pre-renewal communications
    • Upsell and cross-sell activity
    • Events, webinars and network participation
  • Coordinate activity across email, website, digital, social, content and community channels
  • Ensure campaigns are aligned to customer needs, account tiers and commercial objectives
  • Optimise user journeys, in-product messaging and automated communications to improve engagement and conversion

    Customer Insight, Account Health & Growth Opportunities

  • Develop an understanding of personas, jobs-to-be-done, usage behaviour and drivers of renewal and churn
  • Identify headroom, penetration and expansion opportunities within existing accounts across target regions and audience segments
  • Use engagement, usage and CRM data to:
    • Segment and prioritise accounts by value, risk and opportunity
    • Optimise targeting and messaging
    • Improve adoption, engagement and renewal outcomes

    Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with:
    • Customer Success teams to align marketing with onboarding, adoption and at-risk account plans
    • Sales teams to support renewals, account growth and expansion opportunities
    • Editorial teams to align content with audience needs and value proposition
    • Events and Networks teams to drive customer participation, cross-sell and integrated campaigns
    • Data and Marketing Ops teams for segmentation, automation, and reporting
    • Digital and Product teams to improve the on-platform customer experience

    New Product Development & Go-to-Market

  • Support the development and launch of new membership products and features
  • Contribute to go-to-market strategies, with accountability for adoption and engagement among existing customers
  • Ensure marketing readiness across channels and audiences

    Performance, Reporting & Optimisation

  • Track and report on key marketing performance metrics, including:
    • Retention, renewal and churn performance
    • Engagement, usage and active user trends
    • Upsell, cross-sell and expansion revenue contribution
    • Campaign conversion and channel performance
    • Customer lifecycle and time-to-value metrics
  • Analyse activity to identify opportunities for optimisation and growth
  • Provide actionable recommendations to improve engagement, retention and revenue contribution
  • Contribute to regular analysis, reporting, benchmarking, and performance reviews across Marketing and Commercial teams

    Campaign Delivery, Content & Tools

  • Develop marketing material in collaboration with Design and Product Marketing
  • Develop enablement toolkits and campaign support materials for Customer Success and Sales teams to use in renewal and expansion conversations
  • Confidently use MarTech platforms (e.g. Marketo, CRM, Tableau, Heap, Sailthru) to execute, optimise, and report on campaigns
  • Use data, automation, AI-enabled tools, and customer insights to improve targeting, segmentation, health scoring, and campaign performance
  • Execute targeted lifecycle and account-based campaigns across channels, audience segments, and priority accounts
  • Support campaign automation, nurture journeys, and renewal workflows
  • Guide and review the work of marketing executives supporting retention activity, ensuring quality, accuracy and on-time delivery
  •  Contribute to budget planning, campaign planning, and performance management

About You

  • Bachelor’s Degree - B.S. or B.A.
  • Proven experience working in a B2B information subscriptions or membership marketing team.
  • Understanding of digital marketing platforms and programmes, experience in creating and leading the execution of marketing campaign programmes from end to end, e.g. nurture journeys, ABM.
  • Delivers thoughts and ideas on improving existing activity as well as insight into testing new ideas to differentiate from competitors and grow each brand’s footprint in the market.
  • Copywriting – produce compelling copy to drive leads and conversions for their responsible titles and give feedback to the marketing team on their campaigns.
  • Dynamic – displaying energy and confidence in all interactions with peers, management and stakeholders.
  • Confident - belief in their ability to bring innovation and deliver on the businesses KPIs.
  • Forward thinking – constantly looking for new and better ways of doing things.
  • Understanding what and how new mar-techs can drive efficiencies and better results.
  • Commercial – never losing sight of the revenue targets, constantly tracking campaign KPIs and ensuring that the plans that have been laid out to achieve our financial targets get completed.
